Esquisse 4 - folding and locking systems

The challenge of this esquisse was to construct a cube with the dimensions 60 by 60 by 60 mm using 3 different folding systems and a locking system. Due to use of the different folding systems, the dimensions of each face turned out to be different. This exercise is usefeul in that it allows an indepth look into how cardboard is folded and the implications of different types of fold.

I made 3 different variations of my plant by firstly creating a basic modular pod and then combining them in several ways to create interesting forms.

These photos document the developmental process of my cardboard structure. The end structure weighs 149 grams and is able to hold my body weight.
